Web 2.0 and Social Networks in Brazil

From sidewalk to social network
For most Brazilians, social networks - known here as sites de relacionamento ("relationship sites") - take a large amount of the time they devote to internet. Google understood this from beginning and thanks to Brazilians, the survival of the Orkut platfom will be ensured for some time yet. On the other hand, thanks to Orkut, Brazilians are the world champions in social network use. Even if most of them do not know it.

Is Internetocracy dead?
This has not always been so, of course. As it happened everywhere, in Brazil internet followed the same road as in the United States, from email use to BBS addicts. People who worked on this mastered  at some level technology issues and techniques and were seen as experts. Programmers and HTML editors were indispensable at these days.
These times are gone and nowadays, if you have an email, you say "Hello World" with just five clicks. No need at all to be a nerd nor a geek to do it.

Brazilians use more and more internet for their daily tasks and leisure. Even people who hated internet are nowadays wired all the time. At home as well as on the road thanks to mobile smartphones. I have read a very interesting article about the importance of internet by John Naughton on The Observer/The Guardian online: The internet: Everything you ever need to know.
As it interested me, it took me only a few clicks to add it and share it on my Facebook profile. For me and for other people. More coming soon.
